My Prayer For America

Dear Lord,

Our hearts are broken at the state of this country. America has begun to feel as if evil surrounds us; every time we turn on our phones, the news consumes us. Violence, gore, and death have become normalized.  The content that we consume has desensitized my generation to glorifying evil when we should be glorifying Your name alone.  As we mourn following these terrible and gut-wrenching last few days, please Lord, give us peace to move forward and honor You in all that we do. 

Lord, right now, we mourn the loss of our brother in Christ, Charlie Kirk. Our hearts break at the violence done against him in the name of politics. May we move past this violence and focus on handling disagreements in love, not violence.

We have lost someone who we knew loved You, preached Your name, and honored Your Word. As we go through the coming weeks mourning the loss of our brother in Christ, may we find comfort in You. May we turn our pain, anger, and disbelief into a fire for You and for Your Kingdom.  

Lord, our hearts weep for Erika as she navigates life without Charlie. May you give her the strength to continue the mission set forth for her by You. May you give her the courage to stand firm for the Kingdom of God. May you give her the community that will comfort her in this time of tremendous loss.

She is enduring a pain that I cannot begin to imagine, but You are her strength in the suffering. Her courage, her passion, and her strength come from You, so Lord, please guide her through this loss and provide the support she needs during this season of grief.

Lord, I pray for the children of Erika and Charlie as they are too young to understand what is going on. While Charlie is no longer here to protect them, may You surround them with a hedge of protection. Give Erika the strength to raise these children to know the legacy of their father and the love that he had for You. May they grow up to love You, seek You, and find comfort in You. Lord, I pray that their hearts are protected as they grow up without their father. Surround these sweet children with a community that will remind them of You and Your love.   

As we go forward, may our words honor You. May the way we treat those around us who disagree with us honor Your name.  This nation glorifies violence in a way that further divides us. So, Lord, I pray for Your Spirit to change the mindsets in this country to be on You, not on this passing life.  May we carry on the mission set forth by Charlie to further Your Kingdom and speak Your Name. May this country recognize the true  evil within and turn this evil into a battleground for us to win these people over to You and Your Kingdom.

Lord, we also mourn the loss of Iryna Zarutska who, while we may have never known,our hearts have felt utter loss by her passing. May you give peace to her family following her death. May her family find comfort in You as they mourn this horrendous loss.  Lord, Iryna’s death has shaken both the city of Charlotte and the nation, so Lord, I pray that her death does not become another statistic in a country that is plagued by violence. Give us the strength to move forward to ensure safety in our communities so another does not suffer same fate that Iryna did. 

And Lord, while I struggle to forgive these men’s actions, I lift up Tyler Robinson and Decarlos Brown Jr. May their hearts be convicted and may they repent of their actions. Reveal to them Your Holy Spirit to help them understand the weight of their actions. and may justice be served. May their convictions cause them to seek Your forgiveness to follow You. While we as a nation grapple with the loss of two individuals by their hands, may their hearts be changed by Your Spirit to where they seek You.  Please, Lord, give their families a spirit of peace as I pray they seek You. May they find comfort in You in the midst of devastation.

Lord, I finally pray for the victims at both Evergreen High School and Annunciation Catholic School. The loss of both Harper Moyski and Fletcher Merkel breaks my heart;  however, wrap their families in Your arms and give them peace that can only be found in You.  Lord, I pray for the healing of those who have been injured by the violence of both Desmond Holly and Robin Westman. May you give their physicians the wisdom to heal both the physical and emotional pain following this tragedy, and may you give the families the strength to surround those affected with love. 

Lord, our country is broken. We see violence, evil, and destruction every single day of our lives. May we use this time to seek You and glorify Your name even in our grief. May the loss of the innocent lives be met with a nation that seeks to continue  Charlie’s mission to further Your Kingdom and glorify Your name. Lord, bring peace to this nation, comfort in our grief, and revival to this country.
